PETALING JAYA: In view of the upcoming festivities, the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) has urged Malaysians to make plans for a local holiday and take advantage of good deals in the market.

“Malaysia has lots to offer. People can explore the hidden gems of the country. We now also have community-based tourism with new places offering a fresh and exciting experience.“I’m sure Malaysians can spare some time to explore and get to know more about the country’s history and culture, ” MATTA president Datuk Tan Kok Liang (pic)said in an interview.

With more people travelling, he said it would benefit and kick-start the economy again.

He hoped that numerous campaigns by tourism stakeholders, as well as industry players, would help domestic tourism to bounce back.

With the new norm, Tan said business models need to be open such as having a flexible cancellation policy and allowing easy changes to cut-off dates, adding that more attractive packages could also be offered to entice customers to return.

“During the boom time, there was a high occupancy rate, so hotels were a bit rigid but now, let’s work together for a win-win situation for travel agents, hoteliers and consumers to begin to travel again, ” he said.

(吉隆坡4日讯)教育部宣布将今年年终学校假期缩短至两个星期,旅游业者认为缩短学校假期对旅游业带来影响,远远比不上疫情的影响。

无论如何,业者表示,学校假期缩短将造成民众出游的选择性较少,同时在疫情下大多数人仍选择不出国的情况下,也可能造成机票昂贵的现象。

 

蘋果旅遊 有限公司董事经理拿督斯里许育兴表示,教育部缩短年终假期的宣布,可能会导致航班选择较少,进而导致机票昂贵,也使旅行社比较难安排旅游行程。

“教育部将年终假期缩短至两个星期,使国人出游的选择日期会比较少,大家都挤在同一段时间出门,可能将导致机票昂贵的现象。”

“这是需求及供应的原因,在需求提高但供应减少的情况下,费用就会变高。”

“在新冠肺炎疫情的影响之下,就算开放了我国的边境,也会有国人选择不出外旅游;需求减少下,可能机票的涨幅也不会高攀。”

他指出,目前我国还没开放边境,因此旅游业者只能将重心放在推广本地旅游团,相信本地旅游团参与人数会有提高的迹象。

PETALING JAYA: Travel agents must adapt to the new normal to capitalise on the fact that Malaysians are looking forward to travelling domestically during the recovery movement control order (MCO) period, say tourism industry players.

Tourism Malaysia senior director of domestic and events Datuk Dr Ammar Abd Ghapar urged travel agencies to cater to domestic tourism to remain relevant.

Among the agency’s plans to help the industry is the provision of a free integrated online platform, where travel agents can advertise without needing to pay for the services of third parties.

“We will also have online collaborations with companies to offer deals for travellers who visit multiple states within a defined period,” said Ammar, adding that Tourism Malaysia also planned to engage state-based radio stations and social media influencers to talk about the attractions of every state.

The global coronavirus situation has somewhat come under control now, prompting some Malaysians to speculate which countries are going to open up very soon.

To be precise, “green lanes” and other New Normal ways of traveling between countries and cities have been in practice in the three Baltic States and EU member countries. And in Asean, Singapore is pioneering this initiative, starting with business travels to stimulate the regional tourist economy, which is a good move indeed.

But the thing is, the virus is extremely sly and unpredictable, and the government is rightly concerned about a second wave of infections. The second wave of coronavirus infections in 19 states of the US and the city of Beijing, among other places, is beginning to cast doubts over countries eager to be among the first to introduce “travel bubbles” such as Australia and New Zealand, in addition to the reported deferment of first round of “safe travel circles” by countries like China, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and Macau. Taiwan just announced its border closing until 31st July. Sounds desperate?

疫情后,最想环游的世界……

(吉隆坡21日讯)新冠肺炎(2019冠状病毒疾病)疫情后,多数人有意出国旅游,他们最想去的地方,依序为欧洲,澳大拉西亚(Australasia,包括澳洲、纽西兰和邻近太平洋岛屿)、日本韩国、中国及台湾等。

蘋果旅遊市场调查显示,58.4%受访者想在疫情后出游,而且85.5%人士欲出国观光。

逾半数受访者会胥视情况决定出发日期,尤其会关注计划前往国家及地区的疫情是否受控制,以及当地安全情况。

调查指出,疫情后,受访者向往的旅游主题,偏向于 休闲度假、游山玩水及美食;购物及主题乐园旅游团的受欢迎程度,则大幅下跌。
